Volunteers joined forces to plant more than 400 trees at the weekend.
The community planting day took place at North Berwick Trust’s park, on the town’s southern edge, with volunteers from North Berwick in Bloom, Sustaining North Berwick, Bass Rock Community Group and North Berwick Rotary Club all coming out to help.
The planting comes as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy, an initiative set up to celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee by increasing and protecting native tree cover.
The trees – including silver birch, rowan and hazel – were planted along the western edge of the field to form a shelter belt and provide habitats for wildlife. They were grown by Alba Trees, based near Gladsmuir, and donated by the Woodland Trust.
Volunteers will now return on the first Saturday of each month to look after the trees, cut the grass and provide enough water and care for them to survive.
