DANIELLE Murphy has told how cheering on her fiancé Josh Taylor to victory grips “all your emotions”.
The 29-year-old has been at ringside for the vast majority of the light-welterweight champion’s fights since he turned professional in the summer of 2015.
She was again cheering on Taylor at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on Saturday evening as he took a split decision victory over unbeaten challenger Jack Catterall.
She told the Courier: “We’ve been together for 12 years.
“I’ve only missed a couple of fights that I could not go to – his debut and those during lockdown with Apinun Khongsong and Jose Carlos Ramirez.
“It is all your emotions surfacing and everything else when he’s fighting. You are just hoping that he comes out of the ring the same way he went in and that nothing bad happens.
“I enjoy the nights.
“The atmosphere is amazing and it was nice to have the bagpipes and Amy Macdonald singing Flower of Scotland; it was exciting.”
Thousands of fans had packed into the Glasgow arena, where Taylor previously won his first world title with a points decision victory over Ivan Baranchyk in May 2019.
That was the fourth time Taylor had fought at the venue, where he also defeated Winston Campos, former world champion Viktor Postol, and Ryan Martin.
Danielle, who works as a hairdresser, had sold tickets for the latest bout to people from throughout Scotland, as well as England and Ireland.
She said: “The atmosphere was absolutely electric.
“It was good to be back at the Hydro and great to have all the fans back in the arena again.”
The couple were first introduced to each other through Danielle’s cousin at Prestonpans Labour Club.
On June 18, they will tie the knot in Dumfries and Galloway.
Danielle said: “I just cannot wait until it comes.
“We’ve still got a bit of planning to do now that the fight is over and done with.
“I’m looking forward to becoming his wife.”
