THE national flag of Scotland is flying with the Ukranian flag at the village 'birthplace' of the Saltire today in solidarity for those affected by the ongoing Ukraine invasion.
The move to symbolise Scotland’s support for the beleaguered Ukrainian people is being made by the charity which maintains the Saltire memorial in Athelstaneford.
Dave Williamson, Scottish flag trust convener, said the decision to break with tradition and have two flags on their pole for the first time ever was a simple gesture of solidarity.
He added: “It’s a non political statement, we hope a powerful way of showing Scotland’s support for Ukraine at this terrible time.
“No one can fail to be moved by what is going on and this is a simple way of expression our nation’s horror at the devastation being wrought on the civilian population of a European country."
