A DUNBAR man has been fined after he admitted acting aggressively towards his former partner.

Daryl Kitt shouted and swore at the woman before struggling with her in the street near her home in the town.

Concerned neighbours who witnessed the altercation called in the police and Kitt was arrested and charged later that day.

Last Friday, Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that the woman was making her way home from a friend’s house at about 12.30pm on March 28 last year.

She got near to her home when she was confronted by Kitt, who was said to have “acted aggressively” before he then “took hold of her”.

Fiscal depute Morgan Beattie said that “a struggle ensued between them” and two householders overheard the commotion from their homes.

The witnesses were said to have seen Kitt, of Garrison Green, and the woman “facing each other and shouting”.

Police were contacted and Kitt was subsequently found at a bus stop in Haddington and he was arrested and charged.

The court was told that Kitt then became “unruly” towards police officers, stating: “I am an absolute unit of a man and if I hit a lassie her teeth would be in the back of her throat”.

Ms Beattie said that Kitt then added: “Go radge at her and threaten her, yeah, but I never hit her – you’d know all about that.”

Solicitor Angela Craig said that 27-year-old Kitt had been drinking alcohol that day but afterwards “had taken himself away from the situation”, resulting in the police finding him in Haddington.

Ms Craig said that the couple had three children together and there had been no other issues between the pair since the incident.

The lawyer added: “The couple have a good working relationship in relation to their children.”

Sheriff Chris Dickson issued a total fine of £290.

Kitt pleaded guilty to an amended charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner and struggling with his former partner at Brunt Court, Dunbar, and on a journey to St Leonard’s Police Station, Edinburgh, on March 28 last year.

He also had a not guilty plea accepted by the Crown to breaching bail conditions by attempting to contact the woman by sending her gifts and a note on March 31 last year.
