CHANGES have been made within a High Street business in a bid to cut down on waste.

Dunbar’s Community Carrot – known as the Crunchy Carrot – is emerging from the turbulence of Covid lockdowns with wholesale changes.

The community-owned business was awarded Adapt and Thrive grant funding 12 months ago.

The money was used to pay Strathearn Strategic Consulting to undertake a wholesale review of the shop systems, and make recommendations for future processes.

Now, the shop is launching a Shopify system that will help managers make stocking decisions based on real-time customer shopping choices.

This will enable the team to respond to customer demand and ensure financial sustainability in the long term.

Changes inside the shop have also seen the fitting of refillery dispensers, funded by the Community Climate Asset Fund. It is hoped these will help with long-term efforts to reduce plastic and paper use, and enable customers to choose exactly how much they want to buy.

Naomi Barnes, community benefit society secretary, said: “Customers will notice a big change at the Community Carrot.

“After six months of consultation, we are now installing Shopify to help us manage our products and payments for all our customers.

“This will improve the customer experience in the shop by making checking out smoother and give us the flexibility to sell online.

“With this new system, plus the refillery dispensers and plans for a major stock review, it’s a great time to get involved with us.”

Meanwhile, the Community Carrot is also looking for new board members to help the community-owned business to thrive.
