A CAMPAIGN designed to encourage customers to shop local and support small businesses has received the backing of a local MSP.
Small Business Saturday achieved record-breaking success last year and saw an estimated £1.1 billion spent with small businesses throughout the UK on the day.
Craig Hoy, a South Scotland MSP, was joined by Conservative Party colleague and Tranent councillor Gordon Mackett in visiting businesses on Tranent High Street last weekend.
The pair took the opportunity to visit Nettie’s Take Away, City Savers and Bisset & Steedman Kitchens and say thanks to local business owners for supporting local jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Hoy, who is also a councillor for the Haddington and Lammermuir ward, said: “Lockdown has been very challenging for our high streets, so in the run-up to the Christmas period, it’s important we share a big ‘thank you’ to small firms in East Lothian.
“These businesses are the bedrock of our high streets and they provide a vital source of employment for people living in East Lothian.
“I was delighted to join Gordon and meet with small business owners to encourage people to shop local and support their high street.”
