CASES of coronavirus in East Lothian are on the rise once more, according to the latest data from Public Health Scotland.

East Lothian recorded 541 cases of Covid-19 between December 5 and 11, producing a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 501.4.

The previous week (November 28 to December 4), 469 cases were recorded producing a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 434.7.

Though East Lothian has dropped from fourth highest Covid rate in Scotland to the 12th highest.

Falkirk has the highest rate of the virus among Scottish authorities.

In the county, Longniddry and Aberlady recorded the most cases in the last seven days (47), giving it a seven-day rate of 822, with no district in the county recording less than seven cases.

• East Linton and rural – 27 cases, seven-day rate 478.8

• Gullane and Drem – 26 cases, seven-day rate 571.3

• Cockenzie – 26 cases, seven-day rate 461.6

North Berwick South - 25 cases, seven-day rate 509.9

Meanwhile, the vast majority of East Lothian residents have now received both doses of a coronavirus vaccine.

83,378 people over the age of 18 have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

This equals 97 per cent of the population.

A total of 80,506 people have received their second dose, or 93.6 per cent of the population.

And 43,290 residents or 50.4 per cent have received a third dose or booster coronavirus vaccine.
