A NUMBER of homes in East Lothian are still without power today (Sunday) after Storm Arwen’s strong winds on Friday resulted in several power cuts.
According to SP Energy Networks, some properties in or around the following communities are currently without power: Athelstaneford, Bolton, East Fortune, East Linton, Garvald, Innerwick, Longniddry, Oldhamstocks, Ormiston, Papple, Seacliff and West Barns.
Some of the homes have been without power for the best part of two days, since the storm hit on Friday evening.
SP Energy Networks says it expects to have restored power to all homes which suffered an outage as a result of the storm by 10pm this evening.
Following the storm, SP Energy Networks said: “Storm Arwen has resulted in significant damage to our network, affecting supplies to a wide area and a large number of customers.
“Our engineers have been working overnight to restore power to as many customers as possible. We have additional engineers out today assessing and repairing damage to the network.
“Our call centre staff are available but the lines are busier than normal should you wish to contact us.
“Due to the extent of the damage, we know that the time to restore supplies will be longer than usual; however, we will strive to restore all customers as quickly and safely as possible.
“At present, we expect this to be by 10pm on Sunday. We will update you if this changes and we also keep our website updated with the latest information.
“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise and thanks you for your patience.”
Meanwhile, with a power cut affecting the Athelstaneford area, the Salvation Army’s mobile catering unit is being deployed to the village from 2.30pm.
Residents can collect water and hot drinks. The van also has power points to charge handheld devices.
A spokesman for East Lothian Council said: "We’re very grateful to the Salvation Army for their support in providing this welcome facility for the community on a cold day.
"The electricity company is working to restore supplies."
