A DUNBAR man has been placed on a community payback order as an alternative to custody after he admitted threatening to kill a woman.

Daryl Kitt sent electronic messages to the woman that were described as “grossly offensive” and contained “threats of violence towards her, including a threat to kill” earlier this year.

Kitt, 27, also breached court-imposed bail conditions by entering Pine Street in the town and contacted the woman after he had been ordered not to by a sheriff.

Kitt appeared in front of Sheriff Peter McCormack at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week for sentencing after previously admitting the two charges.

The sheriff told Kitt, of Garrison Green, that he was being issued with a non-harassment order that prohibits him approaching or contacting the woman or entering Pine Street for the next two years.

Kitt will also have to complete 140 hours of unpaid work in the community as punishment for the offences.

The sheriff told Kitt that the sentence was an alternative to a custodial one.

Kitt admitted sending the messages, which were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character, to the woman on September 12.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching bail conditions imposed on July 28 on the same date.
