LOVE is in the air for a Musselburgh couple who have celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, after meeting at a local dance.

Grant and Rhona Reid, of Mucklets Place, marked 50 years of marriage last month with a meal with their family at Giancarlos, in Tranent.

Love blossomed for the couple after they met at a dance in Northesk Church Hall, where Grant, from Windsor Park, was singing in the band Leagal Matter, which performed music from the 1960s.

He recognised Rhona (née Fairnie), of Stoneybank, from school and thought she looked “fabulous”.

He offered to walk her home from the dance.

Love blossomed for the couple. who were married at St Ninian’s Parish Church in Musselburgh on September 28, 1971.

Grant, now 71, worked as an office manager at Longmore House, head office for Historic Scotland, and Rhona, 70, was employed in the planning department of the Scottish Government at Victoria Quay, Leith. The couple are retired.

They have two sons, Craig and Stephen, daughters-in-law Tracy (Craig’s wife) and Kim (Stephen’s wife), six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr Reid said the recipe for a long and happy marriage was telling each other “I love you”.
