GIFFORD’S Co-op - the village’s only convenience store - is to become a Nisa store.
A sign outside the store on Duns Road alerts shoppers to the news.
Nisa is a subsidiary of the Co-operative Group with Nisa stores also stocking Co-op-branded products.
The sign says: “We’re sorry to be closing. But a new Nisa store is coming soon stocked with a range of Co-op essentials.”
Adam White, chair of Gifford Community Council, praised the staff at the Co-op and said he hoped the good service it provided would not change.
He said: “We get a brilliant service from the Co-op and hope [the new Nisa store] will continue to that same standard. The Co-op are fab and very supportive of the community and different events that are run and are going on in the village. It’s a great shop.”
It is unknown what impact the switch will have on staff and when it will take place - or whether the store may close for a refurbishment.
Nisa and Co-op have been contacted for comment but both are yet to respond.
