A COMMUNITY fireworks display will not light up the Tranent sky on Guy Fawkes Night this year, after the event was cancelled for a second year.
The display, organised by Tranent and Elphinstone Community Council, last took place in 2019 in Polson Park, where it has been held since 2017.
Last year the event was cancelled due to coronavirus. And at a meeting of the community council earlier this month, group chairman Davie Forrest confirmed this year’s event would not be going ahead for the same reason.
The decision was taken, he said, “because of covid uncertainties” and because they were “unsure about what would be allowed at that time”.
He added: “I am disappointed to have to cancel this year’s fireworks. There are a lot of reasons, like Covid, finance, paperwork and the initial outlay, as to why it is unable to go ahead. We would have to book all sorts of things in advance.”
