After an amazing two weeks of Olympic sport, the Paralympics are upon us and promise to provide an action packed schedule.

It means we are in for another incredible opening ceremony, during which the Paralympic flame will be lit, marking the official start of the games. 

This year's Paralympic opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday August 24 at 8pm, Tokyo time.

You better watch out if you are hoping to tune in from the UK however, as Tokyo is 8 hours ahead of British Summer Time (BST).  

And while you might expect to find the coverage on the BBC, it's another channel that has the rights...

What time is the Paralympic opening ceremony in the UK?

Tokyo is 8 hours ahead of the UK, meaning much of the action will take place very early in the morning. 

The opening ceremony will lure you into a false sense of security however, because with a kick off time of 8pm in Tokyo, it will air at 12 noon in the UK.

Like the Olympic ceremony, the Paralympic opening ceremony is expected to last around 4 hours. 

How can I watch the Paralympic opening ceremony?

Don't get caught out - the Paralympic coverage is not on the BBC this year. 

This is because Channel 4 have the rights, and they are really making the most  of it. 

Not only will the channel dedicate More 4 completely to team sports, there will also be a Paralympics microsite featuring 16 livestreams and providing over 1,000 hours of sport.

What will the opening ceremony include? 

The offical description states that the opening ceremony will aim to "communicate to the world the goal of creating a coexistent society where everyone respects and helps each other" and "change opinion, searching for new possibilities that transcend preconceived ideas by mixing together various elements in new ways".

We don't really know what to expect, but it will undoubtedly make for some inspiring viewing. 

How long will the Paralympics last? 

 

The Paralympics will last 12 days, starting on Tuesday August 24 and finishing on Friday August 5. 

The closing ceremony will see the Paralympic flame extinguished for another 3 years, until Paris 2024.
