CLOTHES found near a cliff edge in Dunbar resulted in a call to the coastguard yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
Members of North Berwick Coastguard were on mobile patrol providing area cover whilst Dunbar Coastguard were completing their water rescue revalidation.
At about 1.40pm, the coxswain from Dunbar RNLI contacted the coastal operations room to advise that someone had contacted them on social media expressing concern for clothes near a cliff edge in the town.
The North Berwick team attended, located the clothing which was climbing equipment attached to the cliff edge at a popular rock climbing location.
A search was carried out at the foot of the cliffs and with nothing further found the team stood down.
A spokesperson for North Berwick Coastguard said: “The informant was absolutely right to express their concerns, however we would always encourage contact to be made directly to the Coastguard to avoid any delays.
“Remember if you see someone or something you are concerned about on the shoreline, cliffs, mud or water. Dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. If in doubt call!
“There is an alternative contact number for the Coastguard, 01224592334 where you can pass information.”
