CANOPIES could be created above High Street shops in a bid to offer shelter to customers.
Discussions between Dunbar Trades’ Association (DTA), Dunbar Community Council and East Lothian Council have taken place about the possibility for shopfronts.
The proposals could see the introduction of canopies, with the idea welcomed by Philip Mellor, DTA chairman.
He said: “High Street is brilliant now with all the work going on and grants happening.
“This would take it to another level and it keeps our shoppers dry in the winter and shaded in the sunshine.”
Canopies were previously used on High Street but many were removed due to the strong winds. Now, modern versions complete with sensors which make them retract in strong winds could be introduced, although planning permission would be needed.
