A PENSIONER has been charged after reports of alcohol being bought for youngsters in Dunbar.
Police in the town confirmed that a 70-year-old man had been charged and a 39-year-old female was to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged proxy purchasing.
The issue was highlighted by officers on social media.
The post said: “It is illegal in the UK to buy alcohol on behalf of anyone under the age of 18.
“Purchases of this type are called 'proxy' purchases.
“Following reports in Dunbar of adults purchasing alcohol for minors and through some excellent enquiry, a 70-year-old male has been charged and a 39-year-old female is to be reported to the Procurator Fiscal for proxy purchasing.”
