Dedicated fans braved the cold and rain to catch a glimpse of the world champion as he arrived home.
Josh, accompanied by his fiancée Danielle Murphy, slowed his car to soak in the adulation of the crowd that had gathered outside his local pub.
One of the first to greet the heroic boxer was his dad, James (see picture below).
Diane Taylor, Josh's mum, said she was overwhelmed seeing her son again as he returned home from his history-making win.
She added: "I feel absolutely amazing.
"The energy of him driving through was amazing because I was panicking there wasn't going to be anybody here because of a mix-up with the flights and everything, but when I saw everybody I was so pleased, it is brilliant."
The crowd erupted into cheers and chants as the champion drove down High Street at 6pm.
Lara Connerton and Kenny Ainslie came out to celebrate Josh's arrival
One resident, Lara Connerton, said: "I am super proud, it is absolutely amazing.
"He stopped and spoke to everyone and he took photos with the children in the streets.
"He is absolutely lovely, a top guy."
"We are going to go and have a pint to celebrate."
Another, Kenny Ainslie, said: "It's lovely seeing him, we are so proud."
