EAST Lothian’s latest coronavirus infection rate remains lower than 100 cases per 100,000 of the population and among the lowest in Scotland – but the number of those who have died from the virus is the highest it has been since the first wave.

Cases

Between January 23 and 29 there were 77 positive cases and the seven-day positive rate per 100,000 of the population was 71.9, a test positivity rate of 3.8 per cent.

Deaths

East Lothian recorded 15 deaths in January, the highest since last April.

One death was recorded on each of January 4, 6, 13, 14, 17, 18, 22 and 26.

Two deaths were recorded each on January 16 and 27, with three recorded on January 21, the highest number of deaths in one day since April 23.

Compared to the rest of the Lothians, East Lothian's figures remains the lowest.

Edinburgh’s seven-day positive per 100,000 of the population is 72.6, Midlothian’s 115.7 and West Lothian’s at 139.8.

Only Pinkie Braes is deemed an area of concern, with five cases recorded in the seven days up to January 29.
