Tartan Tornado Josh Taylor successfully defended his WBA and IBF Super Lightweight titles with a sensational first round knockout of Thailand's Apinun Khongsong in London tonight.
The two men boasted perfect records going into the spectatorless contest at the York Hall, broadcast live on BT Sport, but it was Prestonpans hero Taylor who triumphed with a thumping left hand to the body which sent Khongsong to the canvass after just two minutes 41 seconds. He never recovered.
Victory takes Taylor, 29, to a 17-0 perfect professional record and closer to a dream bout with Jose Carlos Ramirez, who holds the remaining two titles – WBC and WBO – in the division.
"I knew it was a real good shot - it sunk right in," Josh told BT Sport afterwards.
"I would like to have [had the chance to] show a bit more of what we've been working on but, you know what, we don't get paid overtime.
"I want Ramirez next. He's a very good champion. I want that fight as soon as possible."
