MASONIC lodges from throughout the county have donated provisions worth £1,400 to Tranent-based East Lothian Foodbank.

Individual lodge members from throughout the Province of East Lothian, which encompasses St John Kilwinning No 57, Haddington; The Lodge of Dunbar Castle No 75, Dunbar; St Baldred, No 313, North Berwick; Nisbet No 1112 and Kajaki No 1848, both of Tranent, collected £400.

A further £1,000 was donated to the initiative by the lodges’ governing body, The Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lothian.

The lodges thanked Prestonpans’ Lidl store, which donated food and other items at a discount on retail prices.

The goods were presented to the East Lothian Foodbank, which is based on Civic Square, Tranent, by Brother Callum Colquhoun, the Right Worshipful Master of Lodge St John Kilwinning No 57, and Brother Kevin Taggart, a Master Mason, from Lodge Kajaki No 1848, on behalf of the lodges in the Province and the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lothian.

The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of the Province of East Lothian, Brother Dougie Fergie, said: “We are delighted to have been able to help the Foodbank, particularly during these trying times for all of us. As Freemasons, we are committed to assisting organisations within our communities in any way that we can.”

East Lothian Foodbank, provides three-day emergency food parcels to people in crisis.
