A MAN has been arrested and charged with breaking into a charity shop in Tranent.
On Friday (April 24) the Salvation Army shop on Winton Place was broken into and an amount of cash stolen from a safe and charity box within the store.
Following detailed enquiries and the viewing of local CCTV, the man was identified and traced by local officers.
He was arrested and charged with the break in yesterday (Tuesday).
A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report in the early hours of Friday, April 24, of a housebreaking at a business premises in the Winton Place area of Tranent.
"A three figure sum of cash was taken.
"A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Wednesday, April 29)."
