THE Abbey Gospel Choir in North Berwick has been singing its way through isolation... and is encouraging others to join in, too.

Several members of the group sang You’ll Never Walk Alone on March 28, along with other communities across the UK who sang to thank the key workers, in recognition of their efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

The song was also sung for those feeling isolated to let them know that they have support.

Julie Loporto, choir leader, has since been live-streaming singalong sessions from the choir’s Facebook page.

She said: “I started doing the live-streams as I know how uplifting and therapeutic singing can be.

“The choir members look forward to meeting up every Wednesday evening in the Abbey Church as it feels like therapy for us all! It really leaves you feeling happier and more positive.

“So when we had to stop a few weeks ago, I wanted to do something where we can all still feel connected and have a sing together.

“If there was ever a time we needed to feel uplifted, it was now.”

A number of songs have been covered and people are being urged to join in from the comfort of their own homes.

Julie added: “I’m encouraging everyone to belt out a few songs with me from their living rooms, kitchens or gardens.

“As I always say at our choir, we’re not looking for perfection, so sing it loud and proud!

“I decided to live-stream it publicly so that anyone and everyone can join in.

“If it can put a smile on people’s faces even for a short while during these difficult days then it’s worth it!

“My aim is to get the whole of North Berwick singing together.”
