SUPERHEROES have been taking a break from filming movies and saving the world to entertain children in Prestonpans.

So far, Spiderman, Batman, Captain America and Wonder Woman have been spotted on streets in some of the new estates on the south side of the town, close to Royal Musselburgh Golf Club.

Local resident Sarah Morrice, of Suthren Yett, came up with the idea after seeing something similar on Instagram, and hoped it would raise spirits during the lockdown period.

She said: “We had a costume that we used for one of the kids’ birthday parties, so I told my husband that he could put it on and go round so the kids in the street could see him.

“I saw someone else do something like this on Instagram.

“I then set up a group and invited my friends to join that I know live nearby, asking them to invite other people they know.

“I posted on the group what time he would be leaving so people could see him.”

Sarah’s husband Johnathon dressed up as Spiderman, and two days later a neighbour got in touch and decided to dress up as Batman.

Over the coming days more neighbours got in touch and suggested other superheroes; one woman bought a Wonder Woman costume for the occasion.

It even attracted the interest of nine-year-old Emily, who dressed up as Violet from computer animated film ‘The Incredibles’, and completed her own smaller route.

The true identity of the superheroes was being kept secret, despite Sarah’s daughter pointing out that Spiderman “has the same trainers as Daddy”.

Sarah said: “They go out every third night or so. Some people come to their driveways to see them pass, others clap from their windows.

“Even though we are apart, it is keeping people together.

“Johnathon was really happy he decided to go ahead with it. Now the kids are looking forward to it and they dress up as well.”
