A MUSSELBURGH dance studio has launched its classes online to give both adults and children “some form of normality” in their lives during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Dancercise, which has been running classes for nearly 30 years in East Lothian, partnered up with the Louise Collie Dance Company (LCDC) in 2018.

But the studio, at Newhailes Industrial Park, now closed because of the pandemic, faces an uncertain future, with dance teacher Louise Collie warning that, if overheads could not be maintained, it might have to close.

She said: “Obviously, in the current situation we feel, as everyone does, that the tunnel is long. The offered government help is a lengthy and drawn out procedure.”

Louise is now hoping as many students as possible will join in online classes.

She said: “We want to keep our families safe from all eventualities, including coronavirus. We at Dancercise and LCDC are deeply worried about the mental health implications on our awesome community and further afield.”

Highlighting life at the studio prior to the lockdown, she explained: “We pride ourselves on being a diverse but focused school.

“We provide our local community in many ways, one of the main ones being we help our working parents by taking the children straight from school, supervising homework and allowing the children to make their tea in the kitchen.”

Louise started her career at the Rebecca Walker Dance Studios in Edinburgh and went on to become a qualified and registered dance teacher. For the past 28 years, she has been teaching in community centres and schools in Edinburgh and Musselburgh.
