A POACHERS’ net, which could have caught and drowned otters or birds, as well as fish, has been recovered from the River Tyne.

Police discovered the net beside the river, near East Linton, yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “It will have been used try to illegally catch salmon and sea trout but could also catch and drown otters or birds.

“Poachers may be taking advantage of there presently being less public in the countryside but patrols of known hot spots for poaching will be conducted and should anyone observe suspicious activity that may be wildlife crime we would urge you to contact the police on 101.”
