AN HISTORIC battle trust has launched its own online film club to help entertain people who are in lockdown in the coming weeks.

The Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust is showing films on its Facebook page which explain the history of the battle and tell the tales of those involved.

From short animated soundbites about the battle itself and the landscape to a longer film abut Colonel James Gardiner, a local soldier who fought and died on the side of the British Army, the films began showing last week, with promises to repeat them in the weeks ahead.

And the Battle Trust also has links to the Prestoungrange Arts Festival, which is based in Prestonpans and recently restored two murals celebrating local characters with funding from Preston Seton Gosford Area Partnership.

The mural of Gelie Duncan, who was executed for witchcraft in 1591 and inspired the character of Geillis Duncan in Outlander, has been restored, alongside one of John Knox, who led Scotland’s Reformations.

Both murals were created a decade ago by local artist Tom Ewing.

An app which allows people to view all the murals is available from Google free of charge under Mural Trails App.
