WORLD boxing champion Josh Taylor delighted families in his community yesterday (Sunday) when he helped out a charity by delivering Easter eggs to local children.

Taylor, the current IBF and WBA super lightweight champion, joined forces with the Sunday Fresh Chicken Dinner Boxes organisation who were delivering the chocolate treats to families in East Lothian.

The kind-hearted pugilist, 29, surprised scores of children in Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton when he and his furry friend knocked on their door to hand over the free eggs.

The charity took to social media to thank the undefeated boxing champ and to reveal local police officers also got in on the act with the boxer.

Their message read: “A huge thank you to Josh Taylor for helping us deliver Easter Eggs to the children in our community today.

“Lots of very excited children and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces. We even got stopped by the police and thought we were in trouble but they just wanted a photo with us. Lol.

“Sorry we could not get to every street, we did our best.”

One delighted customer said: “A huge thank you for today. My husband died eight weeks ago and I have been struggling so much financially and mentally I contacted your wonderful project to get a chicken dinner box.

“I [also] asked for the Easter Bunny to visit as I knew it would be lovely for my kids – never did we expect Josh Taylor at the door.

“My kids loved it and I have never seen them so excited or smile like this since their daddy died.

“They spoke about it all day, especially my son who is a huge Josh fan – you have no idea the joy you have brought to this house today.”

Another mum said: “My two were over the moon with their eggs and a visit from the champ himself.”

And a delighted grandmother added: “Well done guys – my grandson just had a visit and the look on his wee face says it all. Thank you from a grateful gran.”

The Sunday Fresh Chicken Dinner Boxes charity provides fresh chicken meals to people who are struggling financially in the East Lothian area.

Taylor, from Prestonpans, unified the IBF and WBA super lightweight titles, as well as lifting the World Boxing Super Series’ Muhammad Ali Trophy with victory over Regis Prograis in London last October.
