AN ACCESS road to a construction company in Musselburgh has become the target for flytipping during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Nappies, a pregnancy test kit, general household and garden waste were dumped near the Olive Bank Road base of H M Raitt & Sons Ltd – an area covered by CCTV – on March 27 between 9.48pm and 10pm.
Also abandoned were fir tree limbs, pebbles and stones from a driveway, carpet and paint pots.
A spokesman for the family business, founded in Musselburgh in 1908, said that, because the fly tipping took place on private land, East Lothian Council won’t deal with it.
“We have nowhere to take it just now as the council dumps are closed,” he said.
He added: “It’s just disgusting – especially if it is being done for commercial gain by the individuals who are presumably charging others to take their waste away.
“People should be supporting each other and being civic minded, not dumping their rubbish on other people’s property.”
Councillor Norman Hampshire, environment spokesperson, said: “This is not a victimless crime either as the cost of clear up has to be met by East Lothian Council, council tax payers and private landowners.”
