A FEASIBILITY study looking at the possibility of improving access to Belhaven Bay has been backed by Dunbar Community Council.
The idea of creating a new structure at the picturesque beach to allow people with mobility issues to get down onto the sands is being explored by Dunbar and East Linton Area Partnership (DELAP).
Dunbar Community Council has now donated £300 to the cause.
Currently, people visiting Belhaven Bay have two choices when they step onto the beach. To cross the Biel Water, they can either wade through the water or use the Bridge to Nowhere.
However, neither option is suitable for people with wheelchairs, buggies or mobility issues.
Alasdair Swan, treasurer of the community council, felt it was worth carrying out a feasibility study to see if it would be possible to create something to ensure the bay was accessible for all.
A proposal was previously drawn up to see a new structure created to help people cross the Biel Water. The walkway would be submerged under water when the tide is in but act as a bridge when the tide is out.
Loretta Stewart, from the community council, said: “It looks perfectly simple and why it has not been done before, I don’t understand.”
