THE Abbey care home in North Berwick has received a number of food donations for both its staff and residents from several local businesses.
The local Co-op store, Greggs and Archerfield Walled Garden all pitched in.
The town’s Co-op said that it had several goods to share with people who needed them in the local community.
Several people suggested The Abbey and a trolley full of items were donated, including cereal, milk and other items that were going off.
Greggs donated breakfast packs, while Archerfield Walled Garden donated fresh fruit and vegetables.
All were shared among residents and staff, also helping those who were struggling to find items in supermarkets.
Kayreen Jones, manager, said: “It was really generous of them and very kind. All of the items were very well received by both the staff and the residents.
“We really are very grateful and it has made us feel like we are part of the community and made us feel very appreciated.”
Staff member Laura Scott added: “The gesture has cheered everyone at the home and we are so touched and really appreciative of being thought of for this by the community.”
Meanwhile, staff have been taking activity classes and residents have been writing messages in hearts for their loved ones who are unable to visit them.
Kayreen said: “We have taken photos of the residents with their heart and encourage everyone to look at the East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership Facebook page as that is where they will be posted.
"A lot of the residents are quite understanding of the situation and are coping well; some find it hard to understand but the staff are very good at explaining the situation to them.”
