TRIBUTES have been paid to former Prestonpans community councillor Margaret Kay, who died at the weekend.

Mrs Kay, who served on the community council for 15 years, and was treasurer for 10 years, stepped down from the group last May for health reasons.

Community council chairman Martin Whitfield led tributes to Mrs Kay, saying: “Margaret was a very special person to her family, friends and this community.”

Fellow community councillor Brian Weddell described her as a “genuine community activist who had local people’s interest at heart”.

Mrs Kay, who lived on Prestonpans High Street, was a well-known figure in the town.

Sheila Laing, headteacher at Prestonpans Infant School, recalled how she helped youngsters plant daffodil bulbs at the Prestonpans corner of the former Cockenzie Power Station, saying they, along with other local landmarks, would stand as a reminder of the former community councillor.
