A LIFEBOAT was called out to rescue a dog after it fell 25ft onto rocks at the former Cockenzie Power Station site.
The German Shepherd and its owner were walking along the sea wall path at around 5.30pm on Friday when the dog fell over the wall.
The owner was unable to reach his pet and Coastguard called to the scene said a sea swell, which was breaking over the rocks made it too dangerous to try and reach the stricken animal.
They called in the Kinghorn RNLI lifeboat which managed to negotiate the waves and reach the dog which had suffered injuries to its paw and leg.
A spokesperson for the Kinghorn RNLI crew said: "On Friday a German shepherd dog had fallen around 25 feet onto rock armour at Cockenzie seawall.
"The owner was trying to get to the dog, but it was unsafe to do so, so the Coastguard requested assistance of the lifeboat.
"A crew member clambered ashore to the animal which had injured its paw, and lost a dewclaw which was bleeding. The animal was taken to Cockenzie harbour where it was handed over to the owner and SSPCA for treatment."
