WARRENDER Kathy Who unexpectedly passed away on 16th June 2023, was born to Marjorie Hobson (d2023) and Robert Hobson (d1999) on 17th August 1947. She led a diverse life that affected many, from enjoying ballroom dancing and performing on Come Dancing, training as a Psychiatric Nurse and working from Middlesex Hospital, to helping local sports teams and schools decorate and put on productions to create joy in the community. Born in London in 1947 to renowned psychiatrist Dr Robert Hobson and former nurse Marjorie Hobson, she attended her education at Bromley High School. Upon completion, she followed in the footsteps of both parents by training at Middlesex Hospital to become a Psychiatric Nurse. While at the hospital, her new friends found her to be exactly what they saw. Kathy was always straight talking, but always laughing. Many trips abroad helped open her eyes to the world and ingratiate herself to many people the world over. After a fulfilling nursing career she went on to become a counsellor to students at Durham University. She helped many people who she kept in touch with to this day, some of which were inspired to become Psychiatric Nurses and Psychiatrists because of her. Kathy met her husband Graham at a garden party in Durham and they spent a year commuting back and forth between Durham and Edinburgh until finally moving up to Scotland. They married in 1982 and moved to Pencaitland just before the birth of their first child David. Anna came two years later, and her family was complete. As a long time member of the church, both in England and after she moved up to Scotland, she always had faith but never imposed it, conversely, inspiring her children and friends to think for themselves and to be inquisitive. This showed through the upbringing of David and Anna where she was always letting them try new things, both food orientated with her amazing cooking, or through activities, in which she helped at schools to make costumes, set design, and even creating real life sized dinosaurs for the pleasure of the children. Her family moved to Haddington in 1994, and later on whilst the children were at secondary school, she was now free to start branching out into her own interests. From swimming, playing bridge, cooking, transforming the garden, and bringing some of the garden inside with the many plants, flowers and dried flowers, which she used to make hand made cards for her many contacts the world over. For the past five years she has been caring for her husband, Graham, who has Alzheimer's and is currently being cared for in East Lothian Community Hospital. Still, through the trials and tribulations, she smiled, constantly phoned, learned to use email, and was a ray of honest light to all she knew. Kathy passed away on 16th of June 2023 and is survived by her husband Graham, children David and Anna and granddaughter Fearne, and all the people who throughout her life she made an indelible impression on.
