A TRANENT motorist has been banned from driving for more than a year after she admitted to a series of “appalling” road offences.
Ryah Lammie, 31, caused damage to a stone gate pillar by colliding with it after losing control of her car and leaving the road at Dirleton Road, North Berwick.
Lammie suffered injuries during the crash and was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where she failed to provide police with a specimen of urine needed to ascertain if she had drugs in her system.
The driver also refused to give police the details of who was behind the wheel at the time of the incident, which took place on November 19 last year.
She appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday to plead guilty to charges of driving without due care and attention and to driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
Lammie, of Pinkie Walk, also admitted to offences of failing to provide police with details of the driver and provide a urine specimen at the hospital.
Sheriff Charles Gill told Lammie: “This was an appalling incident and it is fortunate you were not more seriously injured and very fortunate that no members of the public were seriously hurt.
“It is clear you were significantly over the limit for driving.”
The sheriff banned Lammie from driving for 16 months and issued her with a total fine of £840.
Sheriff Gill said that he would allow her to take part in the drink-drive rehabilitation course which, if successfully completed would see the driving ban reduced by one quarter.
