A TORCHLIGHT procession will take place at this summer’s Fringe by the Sea festival – while more big names have been added to the bill.

Lughnasadh is a celebration of the summer harvest, traditionally held to honour the Celtic sun god Lugh.

Fringe by the Sea organisers have now announced there will be fire displays on the opening weekend of the North Berwick festival.

Beltane Fire Society will be lending a hand as the procession winds along the town’s seafront, culminating at the Lodge Grounds with a ceremonial torch giving on August 4.

Meanwhile, author Alexander McCall Smith, who was recently knighted for his services to literature, will appear at the festival on August 9, it has been confirmed.

Keith Brymer Jones, a renowned potter and judge on TV series The Great Pottery Throw Down, is also signed up to talk about his book Boy in a China Shop.

Funk soul band Tom McGuire & The Brassholes will also perform live at the festival.

For youngsters, The Mighty Kids Beat Box Comedy Show will be live and laughing in an interactive showcase where beatboxing and comedy collide.

Musicians Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman have also been added to the bill.

Rory Steel, festival director, said: “We are delighted to have these great names joining us in North Berwick this summer. Alexander McCall Smith and Keith Bryner Jones are great on stage being such natural storytellers.

“We are all so excited about the Lughnasadh Torchlight Procession – celebrating the summer harvest festival and paying tribute to the many farmers in the area.”

Acts previously announced as appearing at the festival this summer include The Jacksons, Hot Chip (DJ set), Richard E Grant, The Stranglers and Del Amitri.
