ONLY one county team was not in action in a weekend that threw up a mixed bag of results for the football and rugby sides.

In the football Musselburgh were involved in a Scottish Junior Cup shock as they were defeated 3-0 by South Division outfit Pumpherston in a fourth-round replay. There was not any better news at Millfield as as Haddington Athletic lost 2-1 to Livingston - former SPL player John Stewart winning the game with a stupendous overhead kick. Tranent's new management duo, Johnny Harvey and Gary Small, were unable to get off to a winning start as they fell 3-2 to West Calder United.

Dunbar were able to provide East Lothian with a win as they ended a run of four straight defeats, winning away to Edinburgh United 3-2.

Preston Athletic drew 1-1 with Tynecastle in the East of Scotland League Premier Division, while in the division below Ormiston lost 4-2 at home to Berwick Rangers Reserves as they dropped to the bottom of the First Division.

The rugby action involving county teams got underway on Friday evening as Preston Lodge succumbed to a 17-12 defeat to Edinburgh University Blues in the Regional Shield. Despite the defeat PL still finish top of their pool and progress to the semi-finals.

North Berwick were also playing their final Regional Shield game on the Saturday as they won 10-5 away to Edinburgh Northern. But the result was redundant due RHC having already won the pool.

Haddington gave themselves a great chance of jumping out of the relegation play-off spot in Championship League B with a 32-12 win over Perthshire, closing the gap to their opponents to one point.

Dunbar jumped to to fourth place in East League Division one, defeating Linlithgow 19-17, while Ross High came agonisingly close to picking up their first win of the season, going down 16-14 to Trinity Accies.

Musselburgh were without a scheduled fixture.
