THE Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of a rabbit rescued by a driving instructor and her pupil after straying towards a busy road.
The charity was alerted on Wednesday after the adult male lionhead crossbreed rabbit was discovered on Monktonhall Terrace in Musselburgh.
Now named Jerry, he is being cared for at the Scottish SPCA's Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
Duncan Robertson, animal rescue officer, said: "Jerry had a lucky escape as he was on the edge of the pavement when he was spotted by a girl during her driving lesson.
"She was very concerned for his safety so pulled over and rescued him from harm's way with the help of her instructor.
"Jerry is a lovely big boy and it's possible he has escaped from his garden nearby.
"It would be lovely if we are able to trace his owner; however, if no one comes forward we'll find Jerry a nice new home."
Anyone who recognises Jerry is being asked to call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
