A BUS caught fire on the A1 this morning (Monday), resulting in the closure of a main access road to Queen Margaret University.
The news was shared by the university at 8.10am.
As a result of the bus fire, which took place on the eastbound (southbound) side of the carriageway, diesel spilled onto the slip road to the university.
There is currently no access to the slip road or the university’s car park and it may remain this way for some time, with the incident potentially taking some time to clear.
Police are also said to be present at the scene.
Meanwhile, earlier further along the same section of the A1, a car crashed between the university on-slip and the slip road to Old Craighall Roundabout.
Traffic Scotland shared news of the crash on lane one of the eastbound carriageway at about 6.30am this morning.
Lane one closed for nearly two hours while the road was cleared.
Traffic Scotland said that the site of the crash was clear at 8.20am, with police said to have removed the car from the road.
One man on scene at the time described it as “absolute chaos” and encouraged people to “avoid the A1 completely if you can”.
